WHY STUDY THE BIBLE : PART TWO: WHAT DID PETER, PAUL AND JOHN SAY ABOUT THE WORD?

We will now take a look at the book of Acts and the Epistles to see what the apostles Peter, Paul and John said about the Word of God, and Jesus. Since John expressed that Jesus is the Word (Jn 1:1) we can understand that in the Epistles and Acts that the Word of God and Jesus can be synonymous.

What Peter said about the Word of God:

In Acts 2:14-40 Peter stands up and preaches the Word of God, quoting from Joel about the last days: (16-21) and in 23-35 he speaks of King David's prophecies about Jesus quoting from the Psalms. He refers to Jesus as the fulfillment of these prophecies, and speaks with boldness and power of the Holy Spirit. He didn't go to preacher's school or get a degree first. He just had a good shot of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost, like all of the others who were waiting in the upper room for the promise. (Acts 2:1)

Peter's faith in the Word enabled him to perform miracles:
Act 3:6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.

Act 3:7 And he took him by the right hand, and lifted [him] up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.

Preach the Word again in chapter 3 with boldness and power, be released from prison by angels;
Act 5:19 But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said,

Act 5:20 Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.

See visions: Acts 10:9-16 and of course hear the Lord's voice. It was his faith in the Word of God. Peter was strong in the Word , after all he spent 3 years with The Living Word, Jesus. This gave him the conviction and faith to live it and say the things he said about it.

1Pe 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

1Pe 1:25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

1Pe 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

1Pe 2:8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, [even to them] which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.

1Pe 3:1 Likewise, ye wives, [be] in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;

2Pe 1:19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:

2Pe 3:5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:

2Pe 3:7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

1Pe 1:25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

So we can see that the number one driving force in Peter was the Word of God, the Gospel, being made alive and brought to fruition by his relationship with the Holy Spirit.

How much do we value life? The Word IS our life, and without it we are alienated from the life of God.
